Celebrating International Women's Day!
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we wanted to hear from our lovely female founders to why they think it’s important to celebrate IWD, who inspires them and how we can support women every day!
Zaffrin O’Sullivan - Five Dot Botanics
Who inspires you, and why?
“Antia Roddick who founded The Body Shop was a huge inspiration to me growing up. She was the first person in business I had come across that believed that businesses have the power to do good as well as being a female founder of a very success business and brand.”
Rachida Benamar - Rama Publishing
Who inspires you, and why?
“Two women that I am inspired by are Ruth Bader Ginsburg and my mother.
Before starting Rama Publishing I studied law and then worked at various law firms. As one of the most famous women lawyers, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a big inspiration to me at this time and I loved studying her cases and reading about her fight for equal rights.
The other woman I am inspired by is my mother as she has definitely had the biggest influence on my life. She taught me so many things that I consider to be my key traits: how to be generous, how to tell stories, how to show courage and be resilient when times are tough. She is a strong woman and made me realise that a woman can be a leader and not feel self-conscious about it.”
Andrea Holmqvist - Showroom Collective
How can we support women, not only on Independent Women’s Day?
“Supporting businesses ran by women either by shopping from them or by spreading the word of their work.”
Emily Canino - Doodle Moo
Why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
“Because we need to encourage each other and recognise so many women doing amazing things, it’s a great time to be women in business with so many amazing female entrepreneurs and lots of support out there. I love Sophia Amoruso for being a self made entrepreneur and the whole Girl boss movement, her podcast is so good where she interviews and chats to other female founders and their motivations behind their ideas.”
Eliza Bautista - Eliza Bautista
Why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate women, from those who have paved the way in suffrage, civil rights and equality to leaders in business, politics, science and the arts. At the same time IWD brings into sharp focus the further steps that need to be made. From the glass ceiling to the #MeToo movement IWD raises social, political, and cultural concerns and celebrates the role women have in empowering change.”
